PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The National Emergency Medical Service Moving Memorial stopped in Pierre Sunday on it’s way to the National E-M-S Memorial Service in Arlington, Virginia. Marc Kilman-Burnham is Director of Governmental Relations for Global Medical Response, He says the mission of the Moving Memorial is to establish a permanent memorial for E-M-S.
South Dakota is one of those stops that the convoy of specially wrapped ambulances and support vehicles made on the 65-hundred mile trip. Paramedic Megan Haverkamp is leading the crew across the nation. She says the Moving Honors started in 2020.
The names of E-M-S workers killed in the line of duty in 2024 were read aloud followed by the reading of South Dakota’s fallen E-M-S.
After reading the names inside the Capitol Lake Visitor’s Center a procession was led outside to South Dakota’s E-M-S Memorial where as the names were read a second time, flowers were laid at the memorial’s base.
