SIOUX FALLS, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – For the first time in Aberdeen Central girls golf program history, they are state champions.
After Central led by ten strokes after the first day of competition, they put together some separation from the field and defeated second place Mitchell by 18 strokes and was 49 strokes ahead of third place, Rapid City Stevens.
Going into day two with a six stoke lead, Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun put together a championship & miraculous second day, en route to the medalist position. Braun carded a 69 for the day, the only player in the two day tournament that scored in the 60’s; she finished four under par for the tournament and eight strokes ahead of second place, Maddie Childs of Mitchell.
As a freshman, Braun finished in third place; last year, she was the runner up to Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink. Braun started the day with a mission: win. She birdied three of the first four holes and put a stranglehold on the competition and finished the front nine with five birdies. Although she did sprinkle in a few bogeys in the round, the junior collectively had eight birdies on the afternoon, en route to the class AA crown.
Mission accomplished.
But once again, the squad proved to be just that, a full team. Aberdeen Central’s Emma Dohrer finished in fourth place, while Kyley Wirebaugh finished in fifth. Three of the top five finishers wore blue and gold.
The Golden Eagles should once again have high expectations in 2026 & will be early favorites for a repeat. Aberdeen Central will return all of their players on the roster for next year’s squad, including the future Jackrabbit & state medalist, Olivia Braun.
