YANKTON, S.D.(KWSN)- South Dakota legislators will debate solutions to rising property taxes in the 2026 session.

Rapidly rising residential rates, especially in the Sioux Falls and Black Hills regions, is driving the demand.

Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen says while property taxes are set by state law, the money is spent by local governments.

Venhuizen says there are some proposed solutions out there.

Venhuizen says capping the rise in property taxes is not the ideal fix.

The legislatures “Comprehensive Property Tax Task Force” holds its next meeting Friday in Pierre.
