James Harty, 62

James Martin Harty, 62, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with Military Honors at 2:00 p.m.

James Martin Harty was born on May 23, 1962, to John and Janene (Bierman) Harty in Rockford, IL. After graduating from high school, James enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1980 to 1983. His service stationed him overseas in Germany.

James received several badges and ribbons throughout his service in the Army, including an Army Service Ribbon, Marksman Badge, and Expert Hand Grenade Badge. After being honorably discharged, James relocated to Aberdeen, SD, where he made his lifelong home.

James was an enthusiastic football and baseball fan who loved cheering for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, regardless of how their seasons turned out! He would never pass up a bet! James cherished spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

James is survived by his sisters, Tammie Crume, Lorie Harty, and Christy Harty; brother, Stacy (Jane) Harty; daughters Brandy Harty and Samantha Molina; grandchildren: Estelle Marzeneu, Kayleigh Marzeneu, Breanna Marzeneu, and Dawson Marzeneu; nieces: Melinda (Jesse) Ryals, Tanya (Corey) Reszler, Teena Torrence, Brittany Harty, and Kaylei Bauman; nephews: Justin (Rebekah) Harty, Brandon Lefthand, Hessten lefthand, Micheal Harty, Kaysie Bauman, and Josh Crume; and aunts Jalby (Dick) Dunker and Mary Harty.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
