YANKTON, S.D.(KYNT)- A consultant’s report adds another bump in the road to building a new prison in South Dakota.

“The Project Prison Reset” workgroup got the report from Phoenix based Arrington Watkins. In it, they recommend spending up to two billion dollars for new prison facilities, far beyond the eight hundred twenty five million set aside by the legislature.

Workgroup Chairman, Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen says the report is an overall view of the corrections system.

Venhuizen says they plan to make a site recommendation at their meeting next month.

Venhuizen says he hopes the workgroup can come to a consensus decision.

The next “Prison Reset” meeting is set for June third in Pierre.

Venhuizen was in Yankton touring the new Trailhead Learning Center and speaking to a republican group.
