PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The State of South Dakota’s efforts to begin a statewide public defender office should be taking cases to court this summer. The Indigent Legal Services Commission was updated on progress with the Office of Indigent Legal Services. Chief Public Defender Chris Miles says he’s been trying to create awareness about what the office does.
Miles says the office is staffed and ready for cases.
Miles says the Office of Indigent Legal Services plans to start taking cases by summer.
Miles says he wants to hire one more office staffer, but will wait until an office location is established in Sioux Falls at the One Stop Center. He added he’s having difficulty getting qualified applicants from outside of the Sioux Falls area.
