ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – The May Overby Elementary Student Council recently got a glimpse of the past when they opened a time capsule from a quarter century ago.
Now, the Student Council, along with their advisors Chrisandra Bierne and Lisa Jaspers, are busy putting together a new time capsule for future students to open 25 years from now.
The newly opened time capsule contained a variety of items such as photos of staff and students, a yearbook, old receipts, and school menus.
It also included student predictions for 25 years in the future, which ranged from finding animals on Jupiter to having a war in space.
There was even a VHS tape with a recording of May Overby students and staff in the year 2000. Students got to watch part of the video at last week’s Student Council meeting.

Favorite Items from the Time Capsule
Student Council President Emilia Brick said opening the time capsule was very exciting. Her favorite item from it was the yearbook.
Fellow Student Council member James Reiss said his favorite item from the time capsule was the VHS tape.
“I liked the receipt because it showed the prices of stuff,” said Student Council member Emersyn Jondahl.
Sealing New Time Capsule this Week

Now, the Student Council is gathering items for the new time capsule, including a May Overby T-shirt, reading textbooks, classroom predictions, a yearbook, an issue of Aberdeen Magazine, breakfast and lunch menus, and pictures of students and school events.
This week, the Student Council will share some items from the past time capsule with the entire school at the May Overby Talent Show.
They will also seal the new time capsule, to be opened by the 2050 May Overby Student Council.
