WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- Several community members, members of the Watertown Pickleball Association, and members of the Watertown Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Board held a celebrated ribbon cutting today for its new pickleball complex. The event marked the culmination of “community passion, thoughtful planning, and a shared vision” for expanding recreational opportunities in the town of Watertown.
Nate Graf, President of the Park and Rec board, kicked off the ceremony.
Graf also acknowledged the numerous volunteers and donors who made the facility a reality.
Councilman Bruce Buhler, speaking on behalf of the city, lauded the facility as a prime example of a successful private-public partnership.
Buhler announced that the WPA raised an impressive $387,500 towards the cost of the complex, with more being worked on with the Parks and Recreation department. He encouraged the public to utilize the new courts.
Speaking on behalf of the Watertown Pickleball Association, Jolette Kosier emphasized the countless hours of planning, hard work, and community input that went into creating the complex.
Kosier thanked the City of Watertown for donating the land and providing financial support, as well as major donors like Doug Sharp of Sharp Chevrolet and the Watertown Area Community Foundation. Court sponsors were also recognized, with their names displayed on paddles placed along the court fences and on a recognition board at the facility.
She highlighted the goal of creating a pickleball complex that serves all ages, abilities, and interests, envisioning it as a hub of activity offering programs for youth, resources for seniors, and a place where families can create lasting memories.
