Elizabeth Duffy & Nan Kelly win seats to Sioux Falls School Board

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – An incumbent and a newcomer have won seats on the Sioux Falls School Board of Education after the May 13 election.

Elizabeth Duffy won 2,582 votes, earning the most votes on the ballot.

Duffy is an attorney and a mother who moved to Sioux Falls in 2008 after earning her degree at USD. She currently serves as the board chair for the Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota.

Incumbent Nan Kelly earned 2,353 votes, securing another term on the Sioux Falls School Board.

Kelly was originally elected to the board in 2019. She is a graduate of Central College and Harvard University and is an active community volunteer.

Thomas Werner had 404 votes, and Trish Ringold had 263 votes.

With 2,958 total ballots cast in the district’s last standalone election, voter turnout came in at a low 2.33%.

The winning candidates will serve three-year terms and take office on July 14.

The terms of current board members Dawn Marie Johnson, Marc Murren and Gail Swenson expire in 2026.
