Hecla, SD: The memorial service for Jerena “Rena” Sukut will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hecla. Pastor Beth Wolff will officiate the service. A private family inurnment will take place at the Hecla City Cemetery.
Jerena Lynn Sukut was born February 23, 1955 in Britton, SD to John “Jack” and Stella (Johnson) Moerke. She attended Hecla High School and graduated in 1973. On December 29, 1973 she married Harold “Harry” Sukut, and they were blessed with three children.
Rena worked for Frohling Meats and the Hecla city bar for several years. Before retiring she worked as a mower for the City of Hecla.
Rena spent many years on city bowling leagues and softball teams. She loved to crochet and would crochet baptismal booties for St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member. She obtained her Intermediate EMT Certification and volunteered for the Hecla City Fire Department and Ambulance. She loved working in her yard and above all things visiting with her friends and family.
Rena passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025 at her home in Hecla, surrounded by her children. She was 70 years old.
Rena is survived by her children: Brandee (Ajay) Cook of Farmington, MN, Travis Sukut of Hecla, SD and Brooke Kercher of Aberdeen, SD; her grandchildren: Shelby, Seth, Ryland, Ritter, Breanna and Lawson; and her brothers, John and Tom; and her sister, Barb.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, who she missed greatly and was looking forward to seeing again in heaven and her parents, Jack and Stella Moerke.
