James Elmer Wolf was born on August 12, 1959, in Redfield, SD, to Elmer and Loretta (Erickson) Wolf. He was baptized in Doland, SD, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the family lived near Doland before moving to Aberdeen in 1966. He attended school and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1978.

After high school, Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps from 1978 to 1982. He served as a Military Police Corrections Officer. During his four years of service, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for two years and honorably discharged as a Corporal.

Afterward, he worked for several years as a corrections officer, jailor, and dispatcher across Brown, Spink, and Coddington counties. His commitment to public service and safety greatly impacted the communities he served. Jim was forced to retire in 1997 due to health issues that hindered his ability to continue in his roles.

Jim had a large collection of wolf memorabilia that he cherished, with many items acquired over the years.

Due to his disability, Jim used the Aberdeen Shuttle service for many years, and in honor of Jim, free rides will be offered to and from Jim’s services. Please call (605) 277-5310 to arrange rides.

Jim is survived by his parents, Elmer and Loretta, of Aberdeen, SD; brothers, Darwin (Dawn) Wolf of Sioux Falls, SD, and Don (Lenel) Wolf of Brooklyn Park, MN; sisters, Jean (Jerome) Kirschenman of Brookings, SD, and Mary Wolf of Sioux Falls, SD; and two goddaughters.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Math and Theresa (Zahn) Wolf and Walter and Alma (Robinson) Erickson; many aunts; and godparents, M.J. and Louise McNickle.
