Russell was born June 17, 1950, to Dale and Marjorie (Everson) Bisbee. He attended school in Cresbard, SD, graduating in 1968. Following graduation, Russell worked in West Bend, WI, and Indianapolis, IN.
Russell was drafted into the United States Army at age 19 and spent 14 months in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device. After being honorably discharged from the army, Russell spent three years working in Chicago, IL, at a glass factory.
He returned to SD and married Dianne Paul on October 14, 1977. Three children were born to this union: Anthony (Mandy) Bisbee, Michelle Bisbee Haselhorst, and Jon (Dayna) Bisbee. Nephew David Roberts lived in the Bisbee home during his high school years. Daughter, Kristi Shellhaus Rozell, was raised by loving adoptive parents.
Russ farmed and ranched for several years and had a love for livestock. In recent years, he has been seen driving around daily and checking his son Jon’s cattle pastures. Russ worked at Twin City Fans in Aberdeen, SD, from 1994 to 2010. Russell was a 50 year member of the American Legion in Cresbard, SD.
Starting in 2011, Russ battled many health conditions, including two cancers, a major heart attack, stomach blockage, and blocked leg arteries. He was a miracle patient and overcame the odds in defeating many of these conditions. He never complained.
Russ was known for his patience and kindness and always treated people with respect. Russ enjoyed fishing, hunting, and archery. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially sharing his love of hunting and fishing with them, which he did often.
