ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Earlier this week the Aberdeen Police Department release their annual report for the year 2024.

The mission of the police department is the following:

“Our mission is to serve the community of Aberdeen in a collaborative effort to enhance the quality of life through crime prevention, enforcement of laws, promotion of safety, and reduction of fear.”

Police Chief Dave McNeil wrote the following in the report:

“It is my honor to provide the annual report for 2025. While we present this report as a summary of the department’s activities for 2025, the true amount of effort, work, and service our staff produced day in and day is difficult to quantify. I am blessed to be able to have a behind the scenes view of our staff’s dedication to our community and
department. We are in a constant state of evaluating our efforts, and it is our priority to gauge our effectiveness in the community. We are oriented towards constant improvement in the services we provide, and we strive to develop our skills and abilities.

Our training efforts throughout the year reflect the effort we make on the maintenance and improvement of our capabilities and abilities.  As you review this report, you will notice we place an emphasis on community policing. Our department offers many free resources to our citizens, businesses, and organizations, such as security assessments, crisis planning, directed patrols, and much more. Please reach out to us if you have questions about the services we provide.

Our goal is to be approachable and responsive to you, the community we serve. We appreciate when our citizens reach out to us with questions or concerns. We highly value the assistance we receive from our community when we are working to resolve a crime event. Often the information and tips we receive from our community becomes pivotal when solving crime.

In 2024, our mental health related calls for service reflected a continued upward trend from previous years. With mental health being a significant component of our work, we designed a position in our department to assist with mental health and addiction related events. The mental health and addiction resource officer position will be operational in 2025, and we are very optimistic that this will have a significant impact in serving those struggling with mental health challenges and addiction circumstances.

I wish to thank our community for allowing us to serve and protect you. Much thanks and appreciation go to our city
leaders and elected officials for providing the support and resources that allow us to complete our missions and operations.

Much work went into the preparation of this report. A special thank you goes to Kathy Haas, our records technician
and communications specialist, for designing and producing this report.”
