The memorial service for Mary Cross, 73, of Mina, SD, will be 10:00am, Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Plymouth Congregational UCC, with Pastor Blair Kirkpatrick officiating. Inurnment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Redfield, SD. Mary passed away on December 27, 2024, in Golden Valley, MN.
Mary was born in Redfield, SD on November 16, 1951 to Robert Betten and Betty Carico Betten. Mary grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School in 1970. She attended Yankton College in Yankton, SD after high school and, in later years, finished her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Presentation College in Aberdeen. She lived in Redfield until 1991 and then in Aberdeen until moving to Golden Valley, MN in 2023 to be closer to family.
Mary enjoyed a long, happy career in Nursing. Her areas of focus were Skilled Nursing environments and Mental Health. She loved being a nurse and spent many hours acquiring certifications and advancing her knowledge of her chosen profession. She trained other nurses and support staff and took great pride in touching the lives of others through her work. She dearly missed nursing when she retired in 2020 and kept her licensing up to date in case she ever had the opportunity to use it again.
Mary enjoyed being with her family and friends and was especially proud of her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, movie lover, and concert-goer. She had a love of travel and was able to get to many of the destinations she’d wanted to see.
Mary is survived by her children; Stan Schroeder, Danielle (Heath) Brolsma, and Lauren Schroeder and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her Mother, Betty Betten.
Preceding Mary in death is her father, Robert Betten.
