James Zeck, 85

Memorial services for James Zeck, 85, of Conde will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10th at the United Methodist Church, Groton.  Rev. Rick Pittenger and Rev. Peg Zerface will officiate.  Inurnment with military honors will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the Conde City Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.

Jim passed away April 30, 2025 at his home in Conde.

James Arnold Zeck was born on December 10, 1939, in Conde to Milo “Ted” and Tracy (Lehna) Zeck.  He attended country school through the 6th grade and graduated from Conde High School in 1959.  Jim enlisted in the US Army in May of 1959 and served overseas until his honorable discharge in May of 1962.  He was united in marriage with Judy Morton on February 20, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Groton.  Upon their return from Germany, the couple made their home in the Groton area where Jim worked for local farmers.  They later moved to Belvidere, Illinois where Jim worked for Cassens Transportation Company.  In 1972, they returned home to Conde, where he farmed and had dairy cows.

Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church in Conde and later Groton.  He enjoyed antique tractor pulling, woodworking, hunting and fishing.  Jim served as the Mayor of Conde and loved to visit with friends and neighbors.  He was a member of the VFW and Conde American Legion.

Celebrating his life is his wife, Judy of Conde, his sons, James “Jim” (Karla) Zeck of Sioux Falls, Richard Zeck of Brooklyn Center, MN, Harlan (Peggy) Place of Conde, Donald Klapperich of Apple Valley, MN, grandchildren: Addison James (Saige) Zeck, Carter Richard (Alexi) Zeck, Foster Richard Zeck, Sheridan (Caroline) Zeck and great-grandchildren, Elias James Khoury, and Rosemary Ann Zeck.  Jim is also survived by his sisters, Lyla Dewey of Butler, Patricia Schulz (Austin) Schiley of Lily, his sisters-in-law, Judith Zeck of Conde, Bonnie McGuire of Belvidere, IL, Darlene Morton of Conde and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ted and Tracy, his sister Shirley (Stanley) Schulz, brothers, Robert Zeck, Darrell Zeck, brothers-in-law, Jim Schulz, Stanley Schulz, William Morton, Wayne McGuire and his granddaughter, Kayley Joy Zeck.

Honorary Urn Bearers will be all of Jim’s nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church Sunday School program, 906 North 1st Street, Groton, SD 57445.
