SPRINGFIELD, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The second meeting of the member of the Prison Prison Reset was held Tuesday in Springfield.
Heading the committee is Lt. Governor Tony Venhuizen. One of items on the agenda is looking into locations that may be interested in having the Men’s Prison at their city.
Among the twelve sites submitted included two in the Aberdeen area. Ryan Brunner with the Governor’s Office explains.
Another location in the region Brunner talked about submitting a site was near Big Stone City in Grant County.
Other locations include one in the Huron area and several locations in and around the Sioux Falls region.
After hearing about each site, South Dakota Attorney General Mary Jackley made a motion to gage whether the committee believed if a new prison is needed.
The committee unanimously agreed that a new prison is needed. Future meeting will determine where the location should be and how much the cost will be to build the prison.
