Gerald Helm, 72

Gerald “Jerry” M. Helm, 72, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Good Friday April 18, 2025.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, SD, with Father Greg Tschakert officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com. Services will be recorded and posted on Schriver’s website following the service.

Jerry was born September 22, 1952.  Raised within an amazing family by Harold and Eleanor (Ell) Helm.  He had one brother Tom, and three sisters Mary, Carla and Linda.  Jerry graduated from Aberdeen Roncalli in 1971.

Jerry married his Roncalli high school sweetheart Patricia Rae Lindner August 4, 1973.  Patricia was the love of his life married for 51 amazing years.  Jerry and Patricia Helm had one son Michael Helm and two grandchildren Chandler and Iszabell Helm of Aberdeen, SD.

Jerry’s career started at K.O. Lee Aberdeen, SD as a machinist then transitioning to purchasing.  Jerry then accepted a lead purchasing position at United Defense/BAE in Aberdeen, SD. During this time Jerry opened a small archery shop Razor Archery in his home selling Hoyt bows and archery equipment. Later in life Jerry transitioned to Crop Insurance with Rain & Hail & Diversified/Agri Sompo. Meanwhile helping his son Michael with launching Helm Marine, Inc. Aberdeen, SD.

Jerry’s love of the outdoors included hunting, fishing, camping & archery.  Jerry loved his loyal hunting dogs Radar and Ruby.  Most of all Jerry cherished sharing the outdoors experiences/memories with his family and friends.

Jerry was an active member within Sacred Heart Church Aberdeen, SD. Jerry also voluntarily shared his time and talents with many local organizations.

Jerry was a softhearted incredibly giving man.  Always willing to help others with a smile. Revered by family and friends as “One of the greatest men”.   Jerry was a faithful, absolute example of a dedicated family man.

Grateful for having shared Jerry’s life family are his wife, Patrica Helm (Lindner)  of Aberdeen, SD; son, Michael (Roberta Suedmeier) Helm  of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren, Chandler and Iszabell Helm of Aberdeen, SD; brother, Tom (Joyce) Helm of Chehalis, WA; sisters, Mary Marshik and Carla Helm of Maple Grove, MN, and Linda (Steven Aksamit) Tamayo  of Lacey, WA; sisters/Brothers-in-law: Pam Lindner, Linda Jo (Mark) Van Dover, Lisa Lindner, Debbie (John) Eye, Julie (Denny) Biedenfeld, Ron Lindner (Judy Swanston) all of South Dakota.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Eleanor (Ell) Helm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Sacred Heart Church of Aberdeen, SD.
