Roger L. Imberi, 76, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, on April 11, 2025.
In honor of Roger, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at the Engels Event Co., 209 South Main Street, Aberdeen. A short tribute will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a meal and fellowship to follow.
Roger was born in Aberdeen, SD, on April 7, 1949, to Martin and Leonora (Weller) Imberi. He had two brothers, Paul (Jamie) Imberi and the late Gene Imberi. He graduated high school from Aberdeen Central in 1967 and attended college at Southern State University in Springfield, South Dakota.
He married Marilyn Riedel in 1968, and together they had three children: Shannon (James) Imberi-O’Keefe, Marla (Barry) Kiesz, and Kyle (Joannah) Imberi. They made their home and raised their family in Aberdeen, where he worked with his father-in-law in the candy and tobacco wholesale business. In the following years, he joined his brother-in-law, Alan Peterson, in ownership of C&C Vending and Aberdeen Coffee.
Roger was passionate about all that he did, and to know him was to love him. He proudly gave back to his community by being an Ambassador for the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, was an active member of the Northern State University Wolves Club, as well as served on the Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club board for years, where he also held the office of president, and started the Senior Golf League at Rolling Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and hosting group hunts that included annual Disabled Veteran hunts and youth hunts, and he loved playing golf, volleyball, tennis, and softball with many lifelong friends. He was always up for a good game of pinochle or whist and, in his later years, looked forward to these weekly card games at the Aberdeen Senior Center.
During his business career, he held many offices and positions within the state and nationally. Among these, he was the president of the Young Executives in the National Candy and Tobacco Association, as well as an active member of the South Dakota Candy and Tobacco Association.
Roger’s devotion to his friends and family was evident in all that he did. He was a loyal and loving friend to many and loved his family very deeply. The “lights of his life,” or as he warmly called them, “My Angel Babies,” were his twin granddaughters, Addison and Riley O’Keefe. Part of Roger showing his love to family was taking every opportunity to instill a lesson and to ensure you were always doing what was right, fiscally sound, prudent, and what would produce the best version of yourself as an outcome. Other loved ones who held a special place in his heart were Henry Renville, Alexandra and Elena Radke-Kiesz, brothers and sisters-in-law, and close friends.
Roger’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Avera Heart Hospital of Sioux Falls and Avera St Luke’s Cardiology staff.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Northern South Dakota Chapter of Pheasants Forever and Area IV Senior Nutrition.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.
