Helen Nelson, 90

Helen Nelson, 90, of Webster, passed away, Friday, April 11, 2025 at Bethesda Home in Webster.

Memorial services will be 1:00pm, Friday, April 18, 2025, at Fiksdal Funeral Service and will be livestreamed on our Facebook page.

Inurnment will be at the Webster Cemetery.

Helen Elaine Holland was born on August 12, 1934, the youngest child to Jacob and Isabelle (Sampson) Holland at Bristol, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church. She attended a country school near the family home until moving to Webster to attend high school, graduating in 1952.

On September 28, 1952, she married James Fredrick “Fred” Martinson, at Tabor Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Webster and owned and operated Martinson Construction. Helen also was a homemaker and active in the community.

Helen was a member of American Lutheran Churching in Webster where she served as the first female church council president and taught catechism. She enjoyed reading, painting, and dancing.

Fred passed away in 1996. In July of 2002, she married Ted Nelson. The couple enjoyed wintering in California until his passing in 2016. Helen continued to live in her home at Webster until 2022, when she moved to Bethesda Home in Webster.

Helen passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 30 days.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Greg Martinson of Sioux Falls, SD, Carol (Warren) Barse of Sioux Falls, SD, and Brian Martinson of Webster, South Dakota, seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Selma Evenson of Sioux Falls, SD, sister-in-law Elaine Holland of Webster, SD, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Fred and Ted, siblings, Edwin Holland, Lorraine Peterson, Sherman Holland, Irene Tvinnereim, Harriet Evenson, Judith Barber, Serine Althoff, and Emma Waddle.
