Vermillion, SD (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University track and field teams continued their outdoor season on Saturday at the University of South Dakota Challenge. The Wolves tallied 44 top-10 finishes from the meet including four event wins and three provisional marks.
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE MEN
- Jeffrey Boschee took second in the decathlon with 5,668 points, recording marks of 12.30 in the 100m, 6.11m in the long jump, 10.25m in the shot put, 1.99m in the high jump, 57.50 in the 400m, 17.05 in the 110m hurdles, 26.93m in the discus, 3.80m in the pole vault, 43.64m in the javelin, and 4:55.13 in the 1500m
- Sean Juengst took third in the decathlon with 5,575 points, notching marks of 12.29 in the 100m, 5.87m in the long jump, 10.83m in the shot put, 1.84m in the high jump, 55.38m in the 400m, 17.53 in the 110m hurdles, 21.28m in the discus, 4.30m in the pole vault, 45.41m in the javelin, and 5:01.54 in the 1500m
- Talan Lunders and Ross Kortenbusch followed in fourth and fifth with point totals of 5,214 and 5,031 respectively
- Chris Weber won the 100m with a provisional time and new school record of 10.38, ranking him top-20 in the nation
- Ty Kadlec rounded out the top-10 in ninth with a season best time of 10.64
- Joel Matehs ran to a seventh place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.85
- The 400m saw Drew Salfrank take second with a personal best time of 47.91, just off the national provisional mark of 47.66
- Luke Campbell and Drew Henriksen placed sixth and eighth in the 400m hurdles with times of 58.61 and 58.87 respectively
- Jonathan Burkhalter recorded a personal best in 1500m with a time of 4:00.80 in second, while David VanVeen took fifth with a time of 4:05.68
- Jacob Angerhofer added the second event win for the men in the 5000m, recording a time of 16:31.73, while Christian Wells took fourth with a time of 18:22.53
- Opening the throwing events, Justin Jacobson threw a personal best of 50.10m in the discus, taking fifth
- Carter Moller took tenth in the high jump with a 1.77m mark
- Jayden Munroe won the long jump with a provisional mark of 7.44m, ranking him tenth in the country, and took second in the triple jump with a 14.28m mark
- Treyson Schulz followed in fifth with a 7.00m jump
- Sam Tremelling took seventh in the pole vault, clearing 4.80m
- Sam Kreins and Ethan Barnett took fifth and eighth in the shot put, tossing 15.76m and 14.71m respectively, with Kreins recording a personal best
- The 4×100 (Salfrank, Weber, Peyton Mausbach, Kadlec) and 4x400m (Salfrank, Geoffrey Mannino, Henriksen, and Matehs) finish third with times of 41.56 and 3:20.05 respectively
- Wolves that hit personal bests from the meet included Kreins (SP/HT), Kaden St. Pierre (HT/DT), Jacobson (HT/DT), Burkhalter (1500m), Blake Stoks (1500m), Salfrank (400m), and Mannino (400m)
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE WOMEN
- Morgan Sheldon took third in the heptathlon with 4,531 points, notching marks of 15.26 in the 100m hurdles, 1.57m in the high jump, 11.39m in the shot put, 27.43 in the 200m, 4.84m in the long jump, 33.50m in the javelin, and 2:32.19 in the 800m
- Renea Taylor took sixth in the 100m with a season best time of 11.88
- Addison Cumbow and Jordan West took ninth and tenth with points totals of 3,561 and 3,337 respectively in the heptathlon
- Kyanna Collymore tallied a season best in the 400m, taking fifth with a time of 1:00.00
- In the 400m hurdles, Elisabet Osk Jonsdottir and Taylor took fifth and ninth with times of 1:05.58 and 1:08.11
- Alli Jackson won the 800m with a time of 2:23.62, while Payton Kemnitz took fourth with a personal best of 2:27.27
- Summer Carlson rounded out the top-5 of the 1500m with a time of 4:58.09
- Jolie Dugan added a fourth place finish in the 300m steeplechase, crossing the line in a season best of 12:12.84
- Emaleigh Olesiak and Abby Hasart took fifth and sixth in the 5000m with times of 19:54.89 and 19:56.34
- Andi Mehrer threw a personal best in the discus, taking sixth with a 42.89m toss
- Macoya Hansen finished as the runner-up in the javelin, tossing a personal best and national provisional mark of 42.53m
- Bekah Walz led the Northern State pole vaulters with a seventh place finish, clearing 3.66m
- Grace Kuch took ninth in the shot put, throwing a personal best 12.42m
- Kamryn Schwartz finished seventh in the triple jump with a 10.54m mark
- The 4x100m relay team of Jonsdottir, Taylor, Anna Skachenko, and Collymore took fifth with a time of 48.36, while the 4x400m team of Collymore, Jonsdottir, Jackson, and Carlson took third with a time of 4:05.84
- Wolves that tallied personal bests included Kuch (SP), Mehrer (SP/HT/DT), Olivia Ashley (SP), Hanson (JAV), Brooke Mushatt (HT/DT), Paige Bishop (HT), Avery Miles (1500m), Kemnitz (800m), and Jonsdottir (400mH)

Northern State returns to action next Thursday and Friday at the Dakota State Trojan Classic. Competition kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. on Friday in Madison.
