ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- On Saturday, April 19 from 1-5pm, community members from across the region will gather at the Brown County Courthouse in Aberdeen, South Dakota for a Day of Action under the banner #HandsOff. This peaceful protest is part of a nationwide mobilization against policies that threaten our rights, communities, and democracy.
Participants will rally in solidarity to defend vital public programs, push back against political overreach, and highlight the growing inequality and erosion of essential services impacting millions of Americans.
Event Highlights:
Speakers from diverse community backgrounds addressing local and national issues
Resource tables and mutual aid stations
A Community Food Drive to help families facing food insecurity in light of recent pantry funding cuts (attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items)
A peaceful, family-friendly environment open to all
This action comes in response to what we describe as an escalating national crisis: skyrocketing costs of living, cuts to healthcare, education, and safety-net programs, and a federal agenda benefiting billionaires at the expense of everyday people. From attacks on privacy and civil liberties to the slashing of Medicaid and Social Security, communities are rising up to say: Hands Off!
This is about more than one administration—it’s about the future. We’re gathering to say Hands Off our rights, our communities, our services, and our democracy.
The April 19th Day of Action is part of a coordinated national effort, with events taking place in towns and cities across all 50 states. We hope to send a clear, united message: the people are watching, and we will not be silent.
