CANTON, S.D.(The Dakota Scout)- Lincoln County is on track to adopt some of South Dakota’s strongest local restrictions on carbon dioxide pipelines — setting wide buffer zones, higher annual fees and strict safety requirements that could reshape future energy projects.
Lincoln County commissioners in Canton held the first reading Tuesday of an ordinance that would set strict rules for carbon dioxide pipelines and related facilities.
The reading moves forward rules that would keep carbon dioxide pipelines 500 feet from property lines. According to county documents, related facilities must be at least 1,320 feet from homes, churches, schools or businesses.
Remember, Brown County has set ordinance at 1500 feet from property line.
