The funeral service for John Blomster, 92, of Wetonka, SD, will be 3:00pm, Sunday, April 13, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Gary Compton officiating. Burial at Pembrook Township Cemetery. John died Saturday, April 5, 2025, at his home in Wetonka, SD.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm, Saturday, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Born to James and Judith Blomster of Wetonka, SD. John attended rural South Pembrook Township school and Ipswich High School. He was active in the Wetonka and Mina Presbyterian Churches before joining the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen in 1969. John was active in 4-H, including the State 4-H Band. He belonged to the 145th Transportation and the 42nd Artillery Group of the South Dakota Army Reserves. After marrying Sally Boulais, they made their home on the original Blomster homestead. Aside from farming and ranching, he enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, woodworking, gardening, and visiting with family and friends. Supporting their children Bridgette, John Erik and Jay, in their various activities was a big part of his life. John especially enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren with golf cart rides, candy and treats, and visits to Storybook Land.
Over the years, he supported the Pembrook Township community in many ways, including serving as the clerk for 63 years, hosting the community picnic for over 20 years and maintaining the cemetery.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Sally, parents James & Judith, sisters Joan McDonough and Joy Glassburn, nephew Dru Glassburn. He is survived by sister Janice (Gene) Coats [MO]; daughter Bridgette Moses [AK]; sons John Erik (Holly) Blomster [MN] and Jay (Jennifer) Blomster [KS]; grandchildren: John Michael Moses, Maria (James) Ford, Alexander, Evelyn, Elliot Blomster and Bayley Blomster; great-grandchildren: John, Wyatt, Andrianna, and Gracin; and nieces, Britt Glassburn [CO], Kimberly (Marco) DeFilippis [NM], Deborah (Andrew) Dale [KS], Michele Benjamin [MO], and Kellee (Brent) Kruse [MD]; nephews Jordan (Peggy) Boulais [SD] and Michael Hostetter [SD].
