Bernard Neil Hubert Sr was born on May 17, 1946, to Otto and Eva (Hohlen) Hubert in Hecla, SD. He was the sixth child of ten children. His family moved to Aberdeen, SD, where he attended school. He had various jobs in his lifetime, including gas station attendant, construction worker, welder, and working heavy equipment for 9 years for the city of Aberdeen. Bernard opened Huey’s Body and Auto in Aberdeen, SD, in 1983 and continued to be a mechanic and auto body technician until his passing.
He was united in marriage to Jackie Bolan on April 17, 1966. They made their home together in Aberdeen, and four children were born into this union: John, Bernard Jr., Michael, and LeAnn.
It’s always been said that he was the “Jack of all trades” and was the man people went to for help or advice. He had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help anyone with any of his talents. His generosity is his legacy and has been touched by so many.
Bernie loved being outside, growing a garden, watching westerns, laughing at old times, making others laugh, helping others, and especially being a grandpa. He loved everything about cars. With him being a mechanic most of his life, he enjoyed restoring classic cars and building hot rods. He built race cars and raced at the Brown County Speedway.
Grateful for having shared Bernie’s life are his wife of 58 years, Jackie (Bolan) Hubert; his children Bernard (Tina) Hubert of Aberdeen, SD, Michael Hubert of Aberdeen, SD and LeAnn (Chris) Diekman of Sartell, MN; his grandchildren Andrew (Brittany) Anderson, Allison (Billy) Maunu, Paige Hubert, Brittany (Guerry Jr.) Everett, Hannah Diekman, Caleb Hubert, Emma Diekman and Molly Diekman; his great-grandchildren; Remi Halsley Anderson, Cayden, Briella and Kyler Maunu, Chevy Sperle and Amari and Skye Everett; his siblings; Delbert Hubert, Jerald (Barb) Hubert, Nancy (Greg) Odde, Sandy (Bruce) Jones and Kathy Humphries; sisters-in-law Georgia Walker and Debbie Bolan; many nieces and nephews; and his furry friend Max.
Preceding Bernie in death was his son, John Wayne Hubert; parents Otto and Eva (Hohlen) Hubert; siblings; Richard (Jean) Hubert Sr, Patricia (Don) Dosch, Kenneth Hubert & Arlone Huber; sister and brothers in laws Pearl Hubert, William Walker and Archie Bolan.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at Avera Cancer Center. Your warmth, encouragement and compassion helped Bernie fight hard through his journey.
