Severe Weather Preparedness Week begins Monday

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Severe Weather Preparedness Week get underway starting Monday.

NWS meteorologist Steve Fleegel offers tips to brace the for the weather coming up in the spring & summer months.

Fleegel talks about new terms being used to address the heat similar to what was used for the bitter cold temperatures in the winter.

Fleegel describe symptoms when dealing with heat ailments.

Fleegel explains when they will post advisories and warning due to high temperatures.

Fleegel talks about the motto used when dealing with thunder and lightning.

Another event during the summer months are tornados.

Tornado warning sirens will be going on Wednesday at 10:30am.  Fleegel inform the public what to do when the sirens do go off.

Flooding is also another event that can occurs during the spring & summer months.  NWS has a motto that Fleegel tells us about.

Another topic discussed during the week is fire safety.  Fleegel offer advice when red flag warnings are declared.

Severe Weather Preparedness week runs from April 7th-11th.
