Robert Janssen, 88

The memorial service for Robert ‘Bob’ Janssen, 88, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 11:00am, Friday, April 11, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating. Inurnment at Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen, SD. Bob died Monday, March 31, 2025, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Robert Herman Janssen was born February 14, 1937, to Herman and Lulu (Campbell) Janssen in Mankato MN. After Bob graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1955, he continued his education at South Dakota State University.

Bob spent summers on a road crew building highways across South Dakota. This led to a career as a design engineer with Clark Equipment in Michigan. His focus was the design of Michigan Front End Loaders. In 1972, Robert transferred to Melroe Company in Gwinner, ND. After a stint in engineering designing skid steer bobcats, he became a Service Manager until his retirement in 1993.

On June 17th, 1960, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Tiase, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. The two of them enjoyed the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, winter reprieves in Florida and the Black Hills.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Sertoma and Ham Radio Club. Bob truly enjoyed his amateur radio hobby. After retiring, Bob took up fishing. He and Nancy frequently traveled to Fargo and Minneapolis for holidays and to attend grandchildren’s school activities.

He is survived by his two sons, David (Carla) Janssen of West Fargo, ND, and Mark (Deb) Janssen of Andover MN, sister, Barb (Walt) Knipe, of Grand Forks, ND, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Nancy, daughter, Susan Janssen, and his parents.
