WASHINGTON, D.C.(KELO)- International farm goods now face stiff tariffs as they enter the U-S.

President Trump imposed the tariffs, effective Wednesday.

He says it’s an effort to level the playing field for the nation’s farmers.

The President also says Europe bans most U-S poultry products, and Australia won’t accept U-S beef, while the U-S purchased three-billion dollars worth of Australian beef last year.

President Trump has followed through on plans to place heavy tariffs on foreign products entering the U-S.

He says most countries have imposed high tariffs on U-S goods…especially on farm products.

For examples, he cited Canada’s tariffs on dairy products, and Australia’s ban on U-S beef sales.

The President says European Union nations block U-S poultry from their markets, while expecting free access to the U-S auto market.
