Bernard R. Tomek, Jr., 76, of Aberdeen SD passed away Thursday, March 27 at his residence. A private celebration of life will be held Wednesday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, led by Father Gregory Tschakert.
Bernard Ray Tomek was born November 16, 1948, to Bernard Tomek, Sr. and Pearl (Geier) Tomek in Aberdeen, SD. He graduated from Roncalli High School in 1967. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He furthered his education at SDSU and Northern State.
In his younger years, his favorite hobbies were backpacking in the mountains and motorcycle excursions.
He was united in marriage to Elaine Neifer on October 16, 1976, at First Reformed Church in Aberdeen, SD. To this union Heidi, Nathan and Megan were born.
He successfully owned and operated The Sportsman Sales and Service which his father began in 1954. Those who knew and loved him did not need a list of his accomplishments and awards nor would he want them written here.
Later in life, grandchildren were a source of joy plus spending time at their lake cabin, especially for the 4th of July holiday. Hunting and fishing were also favorite past-times when time allowed.
He always enjoyed his wife’s home cooked meals, desserts and treats, especially once he was more home bound.
Blessed for having shared Bernie’s life are his wife: Elaine, of 48 years; Heidi (Kevin); Nathan (Stephanie); Megan (Ryan); 5 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren; brother: Gerry (Carol) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard, Sr. and Pearl; in-laws Lenhart and Ella Neifer; nephew Gerry Lee Tomek; and his hunting chocolate Lab, Mazie.
Bernard will be forever loved and missed.
The family thanks the Avera Hospice team for their care.
