Governor Rhoden in Watertown Thursday

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden visited Watertown Thursday,  and KXLG News was invited to attend a presentation at Terex Utilities, followed by an interview with the Governor.

The visit aimed to highlight economic opportunities across the state, with a focus on Terex Utilities and Lake Area Technical College. The Governor also made a stop at the Mother of God Monastery to learn more about what will be one of South Dakota’s largest developments to date once complete.

The day commenced at Terex Utilities, where Governor Rhoden received a detailed presentation, primarily from Dan Garvey, Director of Production, on the company’s operations and its role in South Dakota’s economy.

Representatives from Terex Utilities emphasized their commitment to safety for their employees and as a core value for their utility customers. The presentation underscored the company’s global presence as part of the Terex Corporation. It highlighted its advancements in the industry, including the development of the first all-electric bucket truck and its strong position in the insulated products market, which is essential for maintaining power grid reliability.

It was noted that Terex Utilities has a substantial presence in South Dakota, with all its locations powered by renewable energy.

Following the presentation, Governor Rhoden toured the Terex Utilities manufacturing facility. KXLG News caught up with the Governor after the tour for an interview.

During the interview, Governor Rhoden discussed the purpose of his ongoing statewide tour.

The new Trump Administration is credited for assisting with federal regulations.

Addressing the state’s historically low unemployment rate and the parallel challenge of numerous job openings, Governor Rhoden acknowledged it as a “multifaceted problem.”

When asked by KXLG News about his immediate priorities for South Dakota, Governor Rhoden emphasized the importance of fostering civility and returning to the state’s fundamental values…

Later in the day, Governor Rhoden will visit Lake Area Technical College with South Dakota Secretary of Health Melissa Magstadt, with a focus on the college’s nursing and agricultural programs. His itinerary also included stops at the Mother of God Monastery to learn more about their involvement in childcare and the Challenger Learning Center.
