Arlene Bossert, 86, Mound City, SD and most recently of Eureka, SD, died at her home on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Arlene Anna Trautman, daughter of Ada (Schauer) and Edmund Trautman, was born near Artas, SD on November 17, 1938. She was brought up near Artas and attended rural school. Arlene married Gust Bossert at the Herreid EUB Church in Herreid, SD on March 28, 1958. They settled in Mound City where Gust worked as a mechanic. Gust died February 6, 1965. Arlene married Gust’s brother, Marvin Bossert, at the Herreid Justice of the Peace in Herreid on December 28, 1965. They settled in Mound City where Marvin farmed, tended bar, and eventually was employed with the State Highway Department. Marvin died on January 19, 1994 and Arlene continued living in Mound City. In January 2025, she relocated to Eureka. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mound City and the Church’s Ladie’s Aide. She enjoyed music (especially polkas), gardening and raising flowers.
Arlene is survived by two sons—Jerry (Ivy) Bossert of Eureka and Harold Bossert of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers—Allen (Helen) Trautman of Lincoln, ND and LeRoy (Joann) Trautman of Selby, SD; one sister—Sandra Matz of Eureka; and one grandson, Casey Bossert of Aberdeen.
In addition to her husband’s, Gust and Marvin, she was preceded in death by her father, Edmund, on January 28, 2007; her mother, Ada, on March 3, 1982; two brothers, Clarence and Albert; and two infant sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 27, 2025 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mound City. Interment follows at the Mound City Cemetery. Rev. Lloyd Schlomer will lead the service and Kim Orth will be organist. Congregational Hymns will be “Just as I Am”, “Amazing Grace”, and “How Great Thou Art”.
Visitation commences 12 noon Thursday at the Church.
Honorary bearers will be the staff at the Avera Eureka Health Services.
Casketbearers will be Wayne Trautman of Bismarck, ND; Jeff Orth and Thomas Klaudt of Herreid; Craig Schaffer of Mound City; Henry Orth of Eureka; and Arlene’s grandson, Casey.
Arlene’s funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family funeral Care Facebook page.
Services are in care of Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka.
