ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – The Northern South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair, hosted by Northern State University, will celebrate its 42nd year on Thursday, March 27, 2025, bringing together top young scientific minds from across the region.
Approximately 180 students in grades six through 12 from 12 area schools will showcase their research projects at the fair, representing counties including Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk, Hyde, Marshall, McPherson, Roberts, Spink and Walworth.
A panel of 35 judges from Aberdeen and surrounding areas will evaluate projects and conduct student interviews in the morning. The public is invited to view the projects from 12:30 to 7 p.m. in the Barnett Center gym.

The top two senior high individuals and the top senior high team, consisting of two students, will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Columbus, Ohio, to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair from May 10-16 for major cash awards and scholarships.
Additionally, junior and senior high science bowls will be held in conjunction with the fair, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. These fast-paced competitions will test students’ knowledge in science and mathematics, and the public is encouraged to attend.
The fair is organized under the leadership of Dr. Jodie Ramsay, professor of biology, with support from Jessica Ness, science and math advisor. The junior and senior science bowls are chaired by Megan Howard, NSU master teacher at the E-Learning Center.
