YANKTON, S.D.(Jerry Oster)- When Governor Kristi Noem released her final budget last December, South Dakota Public Broadcasting faced a big financial hit. The Governor recommended a three point eight million dollar reduction in the broadcaster.s budget.
That would have decimated employee numbers and greatly reduced local programming. Late in this year’s legislative session, the Appropriations Committee restored the base funding.
SDPB Executive Director Julie Overgaard says besides the money, they got a vote of confidence from legislators.
Overgaard, appearing before the Educational Telecommunications Board at their quarterly meeting, said public pressure made a difference.
Overgaard says they made some good impressions during the session.
Overgaard says they also may feel the impacts of future reduced funding from national PBS sources.
