Wolves Fall to Washburn & McKendree

Branson, MO (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University softball team closed out their final day in Branson with a pair of losses to Washburn and No. 20 McKendree. The Wolves rallied, holding a lead in each of the games, however gave up a multiple run inning in each that they could not overcome.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. WASHBURN
  • Northern scored first with one run in the bottom of the first and despite Washburn taking the lead in the second and third, tied the game at 3-all in the third
  • The Wolves took the lead again in the fifth, however a 4-run sixth inning by the Ichabods proved to be too much
  • Aune Boben scored in both the first and third innings on a pair of ground balls by Emma Owens and Dessa Bryant, while Bryant scored the tying-third run on a double to right by Owens
  • Dessa Bryant grabbed the lead in the fifth for NSU, scoring on a double to center by Tevan Bryant
  • Washburn tallied their four runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh
  • Madi Jones tacked on the Wolves final run in the sixth, belting her first home run of the season to left
  • Boben and Tevan Bryant led the offense with two hits in the game, including a double and triple
  • Boben suffered the loss in the circle, giving up three earned runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. #20 MCKENDREE
  • The Wolves held with the twentieth ranked Bearcats early in the contest, grabbing the lead in the first and tying things in the top of the fourth
  • In the first, Madi Jones walked with the bases load, scoring Aune Boben, and Addy Hobza scored Dessa Bryant on a ground ball to second
  • McKendree tied the contest in the bottom of the frame and took the lead with two more runs in the third
  • NSU battled back in the fourth with Eden Ford and Courtney Hennen scoring on a double to right center by Boben
  • The bottom of things got away from the Wolves in the bottom of the fourth as MU scored seven runs on four hits with an error
  • Jones scored the Wolves final run of the game in the fifth on a single to left by Hobza and the Bearcats sealed the mercy rule in the sixth with a pair of runs
  • Abby Rux suffered her fourth loss of the season, giving up nine earned runs on 13 hits with two strikeouts
  • Boben led the team at the plate with three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI
