Recap of 123rd National Farmers Union Convention

OKLAHOMA CITY, O.K.(HubCityRadio)- This past week the National Farmers Union held their annual convention at Oklahoma City, OK.  A number of area farmers were among attendance at the convention.

Clark County farmer Gail Temple talked about the Farm Bill which was one of the main focus of this year’s convention.  Temple talks about the impact some of the cuts could have on the bill.

Temple discuss some of the policies they hope to work on to help farmers for 2025.

Temple also wants the next Farm Bill to work on crop insurance.

Groton farmer Chad Johnson talks about what he heard from President of the Farmers Union Rob LaRew.

Johnson also commented on the upcoming Farm Bill that he feels need to be done.

Johnson also commented on the HB1052 that dealt with no eminent domain for the CO2 pipeline.

Vice President of the National Farmers Union, Jeff Kippley also commented on the pending Farm Bill.

Kippley also discussed another topic brought up at this year’s convention, cooperatives.

Kippley feels policies in South Dakota now are starting to make its way into National Farmers Union policies.

President of the South Dakota Farmers Union, Doug Sombke commented on the passage of HB1052 dealing with landowner rights.

President of the South Dakota Farmers Union, Doug Sombke discuss his concerns that the Farm Bill will not be done anytime soon.

Sombke also address the biofuel industry that the Farmers Union has supported for years now.

Sombke also addressed the new Secretary of Agriculture, Brook Rollins who has been on the post now since February.

The 124th National Farmers Union is scheduled for March 7-9th, 2026 in New Orleans, LA.
