Tucson, AZ (NSUWolves.com) – After a strong start in the first three innings, the Northern State University baseball team fell short against Winona State, losing 14-12 to close out the series. The Wolves recorded 12 runs on 13 hits, including four extra-base hits, two of which were home runs. However, all 12 of NSU’s runs came in the first three innings, and they were unable to contain the WSU offense later in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Winona State opened the game with a dominant first inning, scoring six runs
- Northern State responded with a triple by Jack Weidner, which scored Dillon Castellanos and Brennan Phillips
- Casey Vining followed up with a single to right field, bringing home Michael Benevides and Weidner, cutting the deficit to two runs by the end of the first inning
- The Warriors extended their lead with three more runs in the top of the second, making it 9-4
- In the bottom of the second, Brennan Phillips hit a two-run home run over the left-field fence, driving in Dylan Soulek
- Nicholas Ochoa added to the rally with a two-run home run to left field, scoring Castellanos and bringing the Wolves within one
- NSU tied the game in the bottom of the second on a passed ball that allowed Weidner to score
- Winona State regained the lead in the top of the third with two runs
- Weidner hit a single to left field in the bottom of the third, driving in Castellanos and Phillips to tie the game again
- The Wolves took the lead off a single by Benevides to right field, scoring Ochoa.
- Winona State tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
- After two scoreless innings, the Warriors took the lead once more, adding two more runs to win 14-12.
