Secretary Noem discuss Trump tariffs on CBS’s Face the Nation

WASHINGTON, D.C.(SDBA)- Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem defended the Trump administration’s tariff threats against Mexico and Canada during an interview Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation.

Noem said the tariffs, now delayed until April 2, are focused on stopping fentanyl trafficking across U.S. borders.

When questioned about border crossing numbers being at a 25-year low, Noem confirmed the drop but said military personnel would remain.

The secretary also addressed the administration’s detention policy for migrant families, saying facilities are designed specifically for families.

During Sunday’s interview, Noem highlighted deportation efforts, claiming the administration has removed 22 people on terrorist watch lists and nearly 700 gang members in a month.

When asked about recent leaks within the Department of Homeland Security, Noem confirmed two employees were caught leaking information about planned enforcement operations and would face prosecution.

Noem stepped down as South Dakota governor earlier this year, in the middle of her second term, after being confirmed as DHS secretary.
