Deborah ‘Deb’ Ann Hurst, nee Hettich was born on August 15, 1953, to Georgia Kallenberger and Allen Hettich in Aberdeen, SD. Deb grew up here attending several of the local schools. It was at Monroe Elementary School that she met Shirley Ellis, who would go on to be her best friend for nearly 60 years.
In the spring of 1971, Deb graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. Later that year in September she married her first love, Donald R. Hurst. After their marriage, they traveled around the country with the carnival, where Deb worked as a snake charmer, and Don a fire eater. Eventually they settled in Florida. In 1972, Deb gave birth to her first daughter, Michelle, followed by Cindy in 1974, and lastly Charlotte and Christina in 1979.
In 1996, Deb became a grandmother for the first time. Deb loved being a grandmother more than anything else. She shared in their hobbies often watching wrestling and listening to metal music. She never missed an opportunity to bond with her grandchildren, often overcoming any physical limitations to spend time with them, taking as many photos as her tablet would allow. In her long life, she was blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
On March 6th, 2025, Deb passed away at Sanford Hospital in Aberdeen, surrounded by her family. While she is no longer with us, her passion for life and her enduring love for her family will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.
Grateful to have shared her life are her ex-husband Donald Hurst; children: Michelle (Jon) Coppage, Cindy Murray, Charlotte (Eric) Jensen, Christina LaHammer; grandchildren: Courtney (Bruk) Degu, Danielle Clark, Austyn Clark, Logan Jensen, Cole (Ambrosia) Jensen, Dylan LaHammer, Ashlie LaHammer, and Payton Malsom; and great-grandchildren: Amari and Malakai Degu.
She is preceded in death by her parents Georgia Kallenberger and Allen Hettich; her brother Timothy Hettich; and her grandson Mathew Walter.
