Wolves Fall Against Mavericks

Mankato, MN (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University baseball team endured an 8-5 defeat to RV Minnesota State on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a late rally in the seventh inning, where the Wolves scored five runs to close the gap to just one, the Mavericks extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. NSU finished the game with five runs on five hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME 1

  • Minnesota State kicked off game three of the series with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first
  • The Mavericks extended their lead by one in the bottom of the third, leading by four
  • After three scoreless innings, MSU added two more runs in the sixth inning
  • Off of a single up the middle by Dillon Castellanos, Dylan Soulek scored in the top of the seventh inning
  • On a hit by pitch, Jordan Hull scored to bring the Wolves within four, continuing the inning
  • Drew Benson flew out to right field and scored Kyle Konechne to cut the lead in half
  • Mateo Tahsini drove the ball to left field to score Castellanos, followed by a walk by AJ Medez that scored Jack Weidner, bringing the Wolves within one in the top of the seventh
  • Minnesota State responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to lead 8-5
  • Lance Behrens recorded the loss in 2.1 innings pitched against 14 batters and tallied one strikeout
