PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House on Monday debated whether to place HB1076 on the agenda.  The bill was split 6-6 on recommendation both for and against the bill.  The South Dakota House Veterans & Military Committee voted 7-5 to offer no recommendation to the floor.

The bill modify provisions pertaining to improper collection of fees relating to assistance or referrals in a veterans benefits matter.

Prime sponsor of the bill was Representative Christopher Reder of Warner who encourage the floor to at least consider the bill.

Representative Tim Goodwin of Rapid City opposed the motion.  Goodwin also opposed the bill on the committee and felt the bill wasn’t needed because of another bill passed by the South Dakota House.

HB1238 establish protections for a veteran seeking assistance in a veterans’ benefit matter. It passed on a 44-24 vote.  Representative Reder on that bill opposed because he believed it would take money directly from veterans for services that they can have choices for free.  HB1076 was defeated on a 40-30 vote.
