South Dakota Senate defeat SB203

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Senate debated SB203.  The bill increase the minimum age to purchase a lottery ticket from 18 to 21.

Prime sponsor of the bill is Senator Michael Rohl of Aberdeen.

Rohl believes South Dakota laws needs to be more consistent regarding the age you can begin to gamble.

Senator Carl Perry of Aberdeen opposed the bill.  He lists activities you can do once you turn eighteen.

Senator David Wheeler of Huron believes this is a violation of individual’s freedom.

Senator Rohl countered stating things that eighteen-years-old can’t do in the state.

The South Dakota Senate defeated the bill on a 23-12 vote.
