Mary Ann (Jung, Murray) Smith was born August 5th, 1941, on the family farm near Zeeland, ND, to Paul and Magdalena (Salwei) Jung. Mary was the 8th born of 11 children. Eventually, the family moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1960.

Mary and Jerry often spent time watching and feeding the wildlife in their yard. Mary was a caretaker and always thought of others before herself.
