PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Joint Committee on Appropriations heard testimony on HB1026. The bill make an appropriation for the replacement of the Richmond Lake dam and spillway, for the general maintenance and repair of other state-owned dams, and to declare an emergency.
Commissioner of School and Public Lands Brock Greenfield discuss the dangers if Richmond Lake Dam were to collapse.
Greenfield told the committee why the dam was added to the spillway that was passed earlier in 2022.
Greenfield talks about the potential cost to the state to work on the dam.
Greenfield wants what is best for both the short term & the long term.
The cost is estimated to be over $13 million to the state if the bill is passed. No action was made by the committee.
