House State Affairs Committee passes HB1259(Male not allow in female rooms)

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House State Affairs Committee heard testimony on HB1259.  The bill prohibit unauthorized access to certain multi-occupancy rooms and to provide a penalty therefor.

Prime sponsor of the bill was Representative Brandei Schaefbauer of Aberdeen.

Schaefbauer describes what the bill does.

Opposing the bill was Aberdeen native Miranda Gohn.  She discuss how this could lead to questions about whether a student is transgender.

Gohn expands the issue of privacy of individuals being invaded if passed.

Representative Schaefbauer reemphasize the point of the bill.

The bill passed the chamber on a 12-2 vote and now moves on to the House chamber.
