PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House on Tuesday debated for about an hour on SB51.  The bill require the display and curricular inclusion of the Ten Commandments and other documents.

Prime sponsor on the House side was Representative Heather Baxter of Rapid City who explains that the Ten Commandment is a historical document.

Baxter tells the House that the document has appeared in the schools in the past.

Speaking in support was Representative Logan Manhart of Aberdeen.

Manhart reminds the House that other states have passed bills approving putting the Ten Commandment in schools.

Opposing the bill was Representative Lana Greenfield of Doland.

Greenfield feels this is an insult to put the Ten Commandments in all the rooms in the school.

Representative Liz May put an amendment in to place in a general area of the school which passed.  The bill itself was defeated on a 37-31 vote.

Representatives in the region voted the following:

District 3 Reps Al Novstrup & Brandei Schaefbauer both voted in favor.

District 1 Reps Logan Manhart & Christopher Reder both voted in favor.

District 23 Reps Scott Moore & Spencer Gosch both opposed the bill.
