Shirley Stoecker, 89

Shirley M. Stoecker, 89, Faulkton, SD, died Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the Faulkton Area Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Tolstoy Methodist Church, Tolstoy, SD, led by Pastor Tom Sumers. Interment follows at the German Zion Congregational Cemetery, Tolstoy. Organist will be Nancy Trefz and the congregation will sing “Precious Lord, take my Hand”, “It is Well with My Soul”, and “On Eagle’s Wings”. Ushers will be Cliff Keller and Paul Stotz.

 

Visitation begins 5:00 PM Sunday with a 6:00 PM prayer service at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.

Shirley Marie Moser, daughter of Justina (Schweigert) and William Moser, was born near McIntosh, SD on September 20, 1935. She was brought up on the Moser farm six miles south of McIntosh and attended Martin Rural School. She completed her education at McIntosh High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. Shirley then accepted a job at the Morristown State Bank-McIntosh Branch. It ran as a two-person operation, so Shirley was involved in all aspects of the business. She married Loven Stoecker at McIntosh on June 19, 1960. They settled on Loven’s farm east of Tolstoy in Faulk County. In addition to farm work and raising four children, Shirley also baked and decorated cakes for many occasions over a wide area. In May 2015 Shirley and Loven relocated to Aberdeen and since August 2018 they had lived in Faulkton. Shirley was active in the Tolstoy Methodist Church. Her hobbies include quilting, sewing, cardmaking and stamping, cooking, baking, and singing.

 

Shirley is survived by Loven, her husband of 64 years; two sons—Jeff (Carole) Stoecker and Perry (Kris) Stoecker all of Onaka, SD; two daughters—Linda (Bob) Arbach of Pierre, SD and Shelly (Terry) Langbehn of Oologah, OK; two sisters—Irene Heinrich of Elk Grove, CA and Violet Bronson of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren—Matt (Rachael) Stoecker of Harrisburg, SD, Jeremy (Chantel) Stoecker, Darin (Marissa) Stoecker, and Kelli Stoecker all of Onaka, Trent (Amanda) Arbach and Tyler (Rachel) Arbach of Pierre, Nathan Langbehn of Crooks,  SD, Braden Langbehn of Stillwater, OK, and Ben Stoecker of Faulkton; and 16 great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her father, William on December 30, 1994; Her mother, Justina on March 11, 1988; two infant children—Vicki Sue and Kelly James; five sisters–Lydia Gehring, Helen Schultz, Clara Stoecker, Mildred Smith, and Edna Scholl; and two brothers—Milbert and Edwin.

 

Honorary bearers will be the Staffs at the Meadows Assisted Living and the Faulkton Area Medical Center.

 

Casketbearers will be grandchildren—Matt, Jeremy, Darin, Trent, Tyler, Nathan, Braden, Ben, and Kelli.

 

Shirley’s funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.

 

Services are in care of Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.
