NSAA MBB & WBB Players Of The Week Announced

BISMARCK, ND (PlayNorthStar.com) [WBB]– The North Star Athletic Association announced their thirteenth installment of the 2024-25 Women’s Basketball Players-of-the-Week Monday.  Abby Aslesen of Valley City State (N.D.) was selected as the Offense Player-of-the-Week.  Tabor Teel of Dakota State (S.D.) was chosen as the Defense Player-of-the-Week.

North Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Offense
Abby Aslesen – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’0” – Freshman – forward – Howard, S.D. – Aslesen helped Valley City State (N.D.) to an 84-66 victory over (RV) Mayville State (N.D.) with a career-high 26 points.  She shot 9-of-18 from the field (50 percent) and hit 7-of-8 free throws in the game for the Vikings.  Aslesen also had six rebounds (1 offensive rebound) in the game.  She scored 10 points each in the first and fourth quarters to help seal the victory for VCSU.

North Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week – Defense
Tabor Teel – Dakota State (S.D.) – 5’11” – Junior – forward – Colton, S.D. – Teel propelled on the defensive side to help No. 6 Dakota State (S.D.) to a pair of victories to remain undefeated in the North Star Athletic Association.  She averaged double-double for the weekend (16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game).  She grabbed 11 rebounds (7 defensive rebounds) and recorded a block in DaSU’s 69-63 win over No. 24 ranked Jamestown (N.D.).  She followed up with 10 rebounds (9 defensive rebounds) and two blocks in Trojans’ 88-53 win over Dickinson State (N.D.).  For the week, Teel averaged 8.0 defensive rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

Dakota State (S.D.), No. 6 in the latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, extended their winning streak to 14 games after going 2-0 record at home.  The Trojans won the battle of NAIA’s Top 25 teams, holding off No. 24 ranked Jamestown (N.D.) 69-63 on Jan. 24.  DaSU defeated Dickinson State (N.D.) 88-53 on Jan. 25, raising their overall record to 16-3 and 8-0 record in the league.

Bellevue (Neb.) split a pair of home games last weekend, defeating the Blue Hawks 83-51 on Jan. 24 and falling to the Jimmies 76-71 on Jan. 25.  Jamestown is 15-5 overall record and 5-4 NSAA conference record, while Bellevue is 11-9 overall record and 3-5 record in the North Star.  Dickinson State fell to 7-13 overall record and 2-7 NSAA conference record.

Valley City State earned their second straight conference win, defeating (RV) Mayville State (N.D.) 84-66.  The Vikings improved their overall record to 11-9 and 3-5 record in the league.  The Comets are 14-6 overall record and 4-4 NSAA conference.

Looking Ahead This Week
The second-round robin of the North Star Athletic Association action concludes this weekend.  No. 6 Dakota State (S.D.) travels to (RV) Mayville State (N.D.), while Bellevue (Neb.) visits Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday.  No. 24 ranked Jamestown (N.D.) stays on the road as they visit Dickinson State (N.D.) on the same night.

DaSU and BU swap places on Saturday afternoon with VCSU and MSU (DaSU at VCSU and BU at MSU).
