MILBANK, S.D.(KWAT)–A judge has approved a mental competency evaluation for the woman charged in a shooting at a Milbank nursing home this month.

Forty year-old Carrie Collins was an employee in training at Avantara Milbank when she became disgruntled with her supervisor, and shot her in the face with a pistol on January 15th.

Collins is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

Grant County State’s Attorney Jackson Schwandt says the motion for a mental competency evaluation was approved during a court appearance Tuesday.
