WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- On Tuesday, the Codington County Commissioners received an update on the jail construction project from representatives of Tegra Group and Architecture Inc. Dick Strasberg and Tyler Klatt provided the update from the TEGRA Group, Andrew Eitreim from Architect Inc., and Bill Barrett (VP of Pre-Construction) and Greg Beebe (Senior Estimator) from Breckenhauer.

Klatt reported that the project schedule remains on track with the initial timeline presented in November.

To expedite the construction process for long lead items, the project will be divided into two bid packages.

Etreim explains the design phase is progressing.

The team is currently in the second month of the schematic design phase, which focuses on developing floor plans and site plans. Additional soil borings will be conducted as needed to finalize the site plan.

Commissioner Gable acknowledged the collaboration between the Commissioners, design team, sheriff, and Chief Corrections officer to ensure a functional design for the new facility.

The next steps involve finalizing the schematic design package by the end of January and preparing for the initial bid package.
