The funeral service for Beverly A. Burgod, 91, of Ipswich, SD, will be 10:30am, Friday, January 17, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich with Father Michael Griffin, Celebrant. Burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Ipswich. Beverly died Monday comforted by her family, January 13, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab in Aberdeen, SD.
Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm, Thursday, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Beverly A. Oban was born on December 6, 1933, to Tom and Esther (Walton) Oban in Loyalton, SD. She grew up in Loyalton where she attended country school and later attended high school in Ipswich, graduating in 1951. She furthered her education and attended Northern State University for bookkeeping and accounting. Beverly was a dedicated long time employee of 40 years for Grote Heating and Cooling and later Grote Sheet Metal. Bev drove to Aberdeen daily to work full-time until she was 84 years old.
On October 1st, 1952, Beverly married Lawrance Joseph Burgod at Holy Cross Catholic Church. They made their home on a farm near Ipswich and later moved into town.
Beverly loved her family and cherished her grandchildren. She was the “perfect fan” and was a prominent fixture at many of the grandkids sporting events. Bev was a good cook and prepared many tasty family meals.
Bev enjoyed a well manicured yard with lots of flowers. It gave her great joy to plant flowers, prune and trim shrubs. Then stand back and gaze upon the beauty of her labor. She was always thinking of another project and would enlist the help of any family member willing to help out. She did not see it as work. She saw it as a way of teaching and spending much enjoyed time with family.
Beverly was a longtime charter member of the Lions Club and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich.
Grateful for having shared in her life are children: Gary Burgod, Paula (Jim) Torrence, and Keith (Julie) Burgod; grandchildren: Jason (Jeri) Torrence, Justin Burgod (Jamie Hanson), Nathan Burgod (Raeanne Frye), Patrick (Maria) Torrence, Michael Torrence (Erica), Courtney Burgod, Tracy (Lexy) Burgod, Joshua Burgod (Miranda Hanson); great-grandchildren: Bella Torrence, Maddie Torrence, Charlotte Torrence, Olivia Hanson, Eila Burgod, Marley Burgod, Kinley Torrence, Jayde Torrence, Adalyn Burgod; Sister-in-law: Bernice Oban.
Preceding Beverly in death are her husband Lawrence “Larry” Burgod; her son Richard Burgod (Rick); her parents Tom and Esther Oban; grandchild, David Burgod; and siblings: LaDonna Patnode, Shirley DeMinck, Virgil Oban, Dwaine Oban, Thomas Oban.
