SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- Proposed budget cuts are top of mind for South Dakota Legislators as they prepare for the 2025 session in two weeks.
But, for Sioux Falls Representative Tony VenHuizen (VEN-high-zen) the focus is a property tax cut.
He’s proposing an increase in the state sales tax from 4.2 to 5-percent…to cut property taxes for homeowners by an average of 35-percent.
In a guest column for The Dakota Scout, VenHuizen says it’s the same mechanism the late Governor Bill Janklow used to cut property taxes 30 years ago.
